License file

Location

The S4SLicense.xml file needs to be placed in the same directory as the Sitecore license.xml file.

In environments with multiple services it is possible that there will be many locations that need a copy of the license file.

Caching and app pool recycling

S4S loads the license file directly. Some environments (e.g. Azure) cache file data, and changes to this file do not automatically trigger an app pool reload. You may need to explicitly recycle the app pool or service after copying or changing the file in a running environment.
