Licensing

The Downloader service requires a valid license to unlock download functionality. In unlicensed mode the Downloader can be evaluated but downloads will not be processed.

The client application does not have any restrictions. It does facilitate service license management via the Settings page. The current user must have access to the system settings.

License types

A Standard license allows single-machine use only, i.e. the service and the client must both be local.

An Enterprise license allows the service to be shared over the network, and accessed by multiple client applications.

If the ListenAddress network setting is not set to “localhost” and you have a Standard license, Downloader will operate in evaluation mode as if un-licensed.

Purchase a license key

Click the Purchase License… button to bring up an online payment window.

This allows you to complete purchase of a subscription product via our Stripe payment provider. Once payment is approved the license key will be automatically retrieved and activated. The key will remain in the Update license key field so you can save a copy.

The Downloader does not store your payment details, all payments are handled securely by Stripe.

Manage subscription

If you need to update your subscription for an active license, click the Manage Subscription button next to the license status. This will bring up the Stripe online customer portal where you can update your payment method or cancel the subscription.

Canceled subscriptions will automatically disable the license when the current period ends.

Apply a license key

License keys can also be applied manually. Enter the license key in the Update license key box, and click Activate.

If a different license is currently active, it will be automatically de-activated before applying the new key.

Transfer a license

Licenses are locked to the machine they are activated on. If you need to transfer the license to a different machine, click De-activate beside the license status text to remove the license from the current machine. It can then be applied as above on the new one.

Notifications

Each time the client application connects to a service it will display a message if the service is not licensed:

In addition, standard notifications (including email if configured) will be sent when the license is invalid or expired. Notifications will be repeated every 5 days.
